New Orleans-style BBQ Shrimp Recipe

New Orleans has always been known for various amazing cuisine and its rich culture and the New Orleans BBQ shrimp is just one of those amazing cuisines you get to taste. Never heard of a BBQ shrimp, no worries, it isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you hear BBQ it isn’t cooked like any other regular BBQ but rather it is sautéed in a buttery sauce flavored with Worcestershire sauce and black peppers. New Orleans-style BBQ Shrimp Recipe



  • shrimp- 1 pound
  • extra virgin olive oil -1 tablespoon
  • Fresh lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
  • Worcestershire sauce -¼ cup
  • Black pepper – 2 tablespoons
  • Creole seasoning – 2 tablespoon
  • Butter – 1 cup
  • Beer – ⅓ cup

To get your BBQ shrimp recipe right it is important to choose the right ingredients. Shrimps naturally have astaxanthin in them. The astaxanthin is what gives the shrimp that lovely red color. The astaxanthin also has a lot of health benefits, its antioxidant properties protect against free radicals and stress,  it protects the eyes and heart, it protects overall health.

For shrimps: you need to get fresh raw jumbo-sized shrimps that still have their shell and tails intact. If you see shrimps with the head still intact even better

Creole seasoning: you can use any creole seasoning of choices like Tony Chachere’s no-salt creole seasoning or Mr. B’s creole seasoning or you could even use your blend of the creole seasoning. 

Butter: what makes the new Orleans-style BBQ shrimp very rich and buttery? That’s right,  cold butter.  You could use either salted butter or unsalted butter, they both add their flavor to the dish. Salted butter adds enough salt to the dish to get great flavor, while with unsalted butter you can be able to control the amount of salt that goes into the dish. 


  • In a skillet heat your olive oil on moderately high heat.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, creole seasoning, black peppers, and beer. Stir continuously until you start to notice the sauce thickening. 
  • Add in your shrimp the sauce while tossing and mixing so the shrimps coats evenly with the sauce.
  • Continue cooking your mix while moving and flipping the shrimps until they start turning pink as a result of the astaxanthin. Do this for about one minute on both sides each.
  • Bring down the heat to medium and then stir in your butter little by little, only adding more when the butter is melted.
  • Turn off the heat and let it sit for about five minutes and viola your BBQ shrimp is ready.
  • Serve the shrimp on a bowl and pour the sauce over the top with chips French bread at the side to be used for dipping
